Georgia Kitty Harris & Michael Henley are both london based artists currently working on a variety of ideas and mediums. For ‘Unrembered’ the artists have focused on a collection of pieces seeking to enhance their individual practices to create a overall sense of darkness and intrigue. Hosted in a darkened basement in soho ‘Unremembered’ seeks to explore the identity of a person on portrait alone as well as stripping away that identity to transmit the same feeling of doubt and uneasiness Inherent in both artists practices
Georgia Kitty Harris is a London based artist who studied at the R.C.A. Working from found photographs her practise of portraiture is a study on recreating the moment that photograph was taken. These range from psychiatric photography taken in London’s Asylums at the turn of the 20th century to French immigration records from the 70’s to criminal mugshots. The subjects being painstakingly portrayed in graphite were originally snapped, logged and documented before being inevitably consigned to the bowels of an archive. Once drawn we can calmly confront them and be taken in by how much a person’s face at one point in time tells us so much.
Michael Henley is a London based artist who uses the natural world as his primary inspiration.
Using materials such as ink, graphite, tracing paper and LED lighting he creates heavily detailed, layered pieces that reflect on the natural organic world and humankind’s relationship with it. As well and drawing from animals and plant life he has also addresses the human form (in it’s most basic form) in relation to its surroundings, he seeks to strip any identity from the individual to create (more often then not) abstract assemblages of organic forms to create compositions eluding to a narrative and a possible explanation to the apparent chaos and (in some cases a literal) blinding light.
