Comedy Utopia returns in October to Matthews Yard.
Saturday 12 October
Comedy Utopia at Matthews Yard
Matt Burden hosts the returning Sean Sellers and we’ll have Utopia debuts from both Toussaint Douglass and Isa Bonachera.
Lewisham’s finest. Toussaint Douglass is a young comedian with a wonderfully weird take on life. His absurdist tales mix the personal with the political, ensuring it’s never a dull moment as he unravels on stage.
Sean Sellers shares his name with far more people than he thinks he should, including an infamous Satanist–turned–Christian double–murderer and the progressive Christian Rock band named after him.
Originally based in the US, these days Sean is better known as one of the best dressed men in British comedy. A Latino comedian, actor*, and improvisor with an Irish name and American accent, Sean Sellers is all about attitude. Whether he’s playing with the audience, telling stories, or dropping punchline after punchline, it’s guaranteed fun.
“A very distinctive figure: A camp, intense American in an untied cravat and with a thick mop of hair that had such a mind of its own it deserves its own agent. His angsty, agitated style…makes him very watchable” - Steve Bennett, Chortle
Isa Bonachera has many awards under her belt including BBC New Comedian of the Year finalist, Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year, and Sketch Off! runner-up. She just finished a critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe where she pranced around stage in a space suit pretending to be an astronaut. She has now landed and is bringing some comedy that is out of this world funny to Comedy Utopia.
