The official London showcase for Best in Class 2019

Best in Class is a show that champions the talent of working class comedians. 100% crowdfunded and profit sharing, as it should be! After a hugely successful 2018 Edinburgh Fringe run, Best in Class returns in 2019 with fresh line up of the hottest working class comedy heroes.

Best in Class was founded by Liverpool comedian Sian Davies who was fed up of class, money and social status being used as barrier to performing. She was invited to audition for a spot on an Edinburgh Fringe show, if successful she was told she would have to pay £1800 to the promoter by the end of the week to secure her place. She set up a crowdfunding page to help with her costs. Within an hour the promoter called her back and dropped her from the audition. Apparently she was not the sort of person they wanted to work with.

Sian decided to turn the situation into something positive. Realising that the barriers facing working class performers in the arts are systemic, she set up Best in Class and the rest is history!

In 2018 the project took 9 working class comedians to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe. The group worked tirelessly in the run up to the festival to crowdfund the costs involved with taking a show to the fringe. Crucially, none of the acts paid to participate in the show and they all received payment for the work they did.

Of the comedians involved last year, two were nominated for Leicester Mercury Comedian of the year, one was signed by an agent, two are doing tour support for huge names, one was selected for Leicester Circuit Breakers and several are developing shows for 2019. Now that’s impressive!

You can be one of the first to see a selection of the 2019 comedians as they start their journey to the fringe with our working class comedy extravaganza!

The 2019 Best in Class line up features:

William Stone (BBC New Comedy Award Finalist 2018); Jordan Gray (“Open, honest, creative genius.” Scroobius Pip); Fran Garrity ("instant rapport...always big laughs" Agraman, Buzz Comedy); Hannah Platt ("Voice of a new generation" The Skinny); Wilson Milton ("Smart, charismatic and a huge hit with audiences" Up The Creek); Kimi Loughton ("Confident & engaging” Fringe Monkey); Ash Preston (resembles several murderers); Charlie George (Leicester Square New Comedian Award finalist 2018);
